Hi, thank you for coming to ballerina.com. I am Dawn Hillen and I teach ballet in New York City at Broadway Dance Center, Steps on Broadway and Ballet Arts. You can find my current schedule at “classes” at the top and links to the studios on the righ side and down a bit, to see all the wonderful opportunities these amazing studios offer! I also teach private lessons upon request and travel around the country for Master classes if you would like to have me come to you!
Having studied with such masters as Margot Fonteyn, Maggie Black, David Howard, Douglas Wassell, Wilhelm Burman, Elenore D’Antuano, Alex Tressor, Michael Vernon, Frank Hatchett, Chet Walker, Peff Modelski, Zena Rommett, Gelsey Kirkland, Bill Hastings, Anne Reinking, Dana Moore and others who were so knowledgeable and generous with me, I continue to pass on the traditions of the ballet and dance as well as creating new ones.
I have been a Principal Dancer with American Festival Ballet, Wilkes-Barre Ballet Theatre and Classical Ballet Theatre; have danced with New Jersey Ballet, Connecticut Ballet Theatre and Dance Theatre of Long Island as Guest Artist and worked with a number of independant choreographoers here in NYC.
Resident Choreographer for American Theatre Dance Workshop, Wilkes-Barre Ballet Theatre and a Guest Choreographer for Eglevsky Ballet School, Robert Mann Dance Center and the University of Idaho Concert Series. More recently I have shown new works at the Steps Faculty Showcase, and at the 92nd Street Y here in NYC for New Choreographers on Pointe.
My teaching experience with adult beginner ballet students and children at the Eglevsky School of Ballet, the Wilkes-Barre Ballet Theatre Company and School and Hofstra University’s Summer Dance Program combined with the many years on the permanent faculties of BDC, Steps and BA is reflected in my classess. In addition to my ongoing classes I have been asked to Direct the Ballet Program for Broadway Dance Center’s Professional Children and Teen Program. This is very exciting as we are creating a sylibus for these young and talented dancers. (I am also certified in the Zena Rommett Floor Barre Techinique TM, and it has made such a difference in the technique of our beautiful kids in just a few short months). I will keep you posted.
Here is a little quote from the Ballet Arts Faculty Bio Page:
“Ms. Hillen teaches a joyous class with a sensible, clear and fun approach; building a solid foundation that is prerequisite for further advancement.”
